iPhone insurance is going to be needed if you own an iPhone.
For everyone.
The only exception to this rule is if you are so monied that you can easily pay the £550 to buy yourself another iPhone replacement if yours is stolen or damaged. So unless you are staggeringly wealthy or have just won the lottery then you are probably going to need iPhone insurance.
It should cover you for the 2 main essential risk cover elements - iPhone theft and iPhone damage. Try to make sure that water damage is covered and included as this is a big killer of phones.
